Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

First, please note that there will be no 5:00pm Sunday Mass today (Nov. 20), due to the Eucharistic Procession, so please plan accordingly.
Below, please find a summary of our recent Strategic Plan initiative by Parish Council chair, Liz Stewart. God bless! – Father Wilson

--------------

Your Parish Council worked on facilitating a Strategic Plan for the Parish for almost a year. We are now at the most exciting stage – Implementation. Let’s look at how we got here and where we are going.

First, the Council designed a process and held Visioning Sessions to which half of the registered parishioners were invited. A great deal of valuable information was gleaned from these meetings. Next, the Council reviewed the results and distilled the data into four major goals, also creating an operation structure for implementation. Each goal will be chaired by a volunteer and overseen by two members of the Parish Council. The chair will oversee the committees that are formed under each goal. Parish Council oversight will allow the sharing of information and encourage coordination between the goal efforts.

In summary, these were the most frequently submitted comments and have become the foundation for the four goals. One of the most often requested options is for opportunities for working parishioners to volunteer evenings and weekends. Many expressed the need to focus on being more welcoming and offering more socialization opportunities. Our parish is aging and the need to retain and engage younger parishioners is evident. Many desired to grow in our faith and to have increased learning opportunities. It was also noted frequently that we are not as engaged within our local community as we could be with the issue of homelessness as a common priority.
These four goals represent the focus of our efforts for the next year:

  • Goal 1: Creating a more welcoming environment in the parish. Parish Council Leads: Tom Monahan and Jane Tillman. This includes a Newcomers Committee; providing greeter/usher refresher training; working with ministry leaders to make sure these new ideas are being incorporated into their activities; and providing more networking opportunities and social events, especially for seniors.
  • Goal 2: Retain and engage younger parishioners. Parish Council Leads: Matt Kuhn and Andy Colquitt. This includes bringing the Newman Club onto our campus; creating a Hispanic young adult group, making school facilities available for young adult sports; and upgrading our youth ministry. For our school, efforts will revolve around increasing diversity, enrollment, managing costs, and providing scholarships; as well as adding 3K and 4K classes.
  • Goal 3: Provide more faith training. Parish Council Leads: Joely Leguizamon and Blanche PremoHopkins. This includes increasing the number of Father’s presentations (i.e., Revelation), expanding Totus Tuus (Vacation Bible School), adding more Home Bible Study Groups and other adult study groups.
  • Goal 4: Develop more community outreach efforts. Parish Council Leads: Dennis Gmerek and Liz Stewart. The issue of homelessness will be addressed through a collaboration with Family Promise. More information will be provided to the community about the ministries we offer. More services will be provided to the working poor during a schedule that accommodates their work hours.

There is most likely at least one area of interest for each of our Parish members. Please consider your volunteer interests and how they can support these goals.
