A Flurry of Activity

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

November is a busy month! Here are several updates for you:

More and more hearing aids today are equipped with Bluetooth technology, allowing users to control their hearing aids even through an app on their phone. We are in the process of installing the necessary devices which will allow those with this technology to stream audio directly through our church’s sound system. Once installed, we will offer training sessions and other information on how to connect wirelessly through your smartphone. Stay tuned for more information very soon. As you hopefully know, since the 1950s, St. Mary’s has owned Calvary Cemetery at 1255 University Lane here in Aiken. I wanted to make you aware of some improvements happening there. First, we have installed new, concrete curbing throughout the main drive of the cemetery. Also, we are preparing to open up more of the usable land we have, which will make the area even more beautiful. Finally, in December, a columbarium for cremated remains will be added.

We have finally received the necessary permit from the city to construct our new storage facility adjacent to our Sacred Heart Center on the corner of Richland Ave. and Union St. Once completed, we will be able to demolish the old muffler shop on the corner of Richland and York St., which we presently use for storage. After the demolition of this building, we will be able to prepare the ground for the new Science and Engineering Academy wing of our school!

We still need your help. Please consider a gift to this tremendous and indispensable project for our children and their future. As I have mentioned before, this is your opportunity truly to help make history. This will be the first significant addition to the St. Mary’s School in decades. And it is an absolutely necessary addition since it will house learning spaces for state-of-the-art robotics, computer coding, cyber security, and more. Thank you for giving this serious prayer and thought, and a special thanks to all those who have made their generous pledge. We can’t do this without you!

As I mentioned last week, our parish is hosting the Aiken Deanery Eucharistic Procession. This special Procession of the Most Blessed Sacrament will “crown” the liturgical year on Christ the King Sunday, November 20. The Procession will form at 2:45pm on Fairfield St. in front of the church so that we may begin promptly at 3pm. Special stational altars representing parishes from around the deanery will be set up in the parkway of Park Ave. where special prayers and blessings will be given. Then, join us for food, fun, and fellowship in St. Angela Hall, and get to know your fellow Catholics from around the deanery! All will be able to participate. See the flyer for more details.

In our Eucharistic Lord, Father Wilson
