My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I ask for all the faithful of our diocese to pray for the families affected by Hurricane Helene. It made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 and has destroyed many homes and taken lives, including in our own state. We should also pray for all first responders, who dedicate themselves to serving those most in need during crises, and the linemen who work diligently to restore power.
Catholic Charities of South Carolina is working closely with the state emergency management division, local county emergency managers and voluntary agencies active in disaster. Once damage assessments are completed, CCSC will assist with food, water, hygiene items and cleaning supplies. Afterward, their disaster case management program will open for long-term needs. Call 843-438-3083 for assistance. If you can donate or volunteer, call 843-438-3083.
In times such as this, we should come together to help our neighbors in any way we can. Let us also rely on God’s mercy and trust in him even when it is hard for us to understand. May God's peace and love be with you all.
In Christ’s love,
Most Rev. Jacques Fabre-Jeune, CS
Bishop of Charleston
