For All the Saints

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I’ve been so encouraged by those of you who have pledged to help build the new Science and Engineering Academy wing for our school. As of this past Monday morning, we have 87 pledges totaling $5,307,070. Wow! In order to receive diocesan approval to begin, we need about $1,500,000 more to make our goal. We can do that with your help! This parish has always outdone expectations in generosity. Please prayerfully consider a gift for the future of our children. Also, if you have any questions or concerns at all, please contact our team, who can help:

or Barbara Sue Brodie – bsue1@mac.com

Calling all Lectors, Ushers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and Altar Servers! Please sign up to serve for our Holy Day of Obligation – All Saints Day – in the book located in the narthex of the church. We need your help for both the Vigil on Oct. 31 and for Masses on the day, Nov. 1. As a reminder, Masses for the Holy Day are: Oct. 31 at 5:30pm (church); and Nov. 1 at 6:30am (Old St. Mary’s); 12noon (church); 5:30pm (church); and 7:00pm in Spanish (Old St. Mary’s – please note location change).

All Saints Day celebrates truly all the Saints of God, officially canonized and not, who now enjoy the beatific vision, i.e., the vision of God for all eternity. As part of the living, Mystical Body of Jesus Christ, we can still call upon these holy ones to pray for us just as we can ask each other to pray.

Wednesday, November 2 is All Souls Day and begins a whole month of fulfilling one of the Spiritual Works of Mercy – to pray for our departed souls. The Church has prayed for her departed from our earliest days. In St. Augustine’s Confessions, we have a beautiful quote from his dying mother, St. Monica: “Bury my body wherever you will; … One thing only I ask you, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord.” Let us pray also for those who have no one to pray for them. Doing so, you will find one day that you will have made many friends in heaven!

Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend our Aiken Deanery Eucharistic Procession on Sunday, November 20. Our parish is hosting all the other parishes of the deanery: St. Gerard’s, Aiken; Good Shepherd, McCormick; Sacred Heart, Abbeville; Our Lady of Lourdes, Greenwood; Our Lady of Peace, N. Augusta; Our Lady of the Valley, Gloverville; St. Mary’s, Edgefield; St. Edward’s, N. Augusta; and St. Andrew’s, Barnwell. Please plan to gather in front of the church at 2:45pm so that we may begin the procession down Park Ave. promptly at 3pm. Look for more information on our special flyer.

Yours in Our Lord and Our Lady,
Father Wilson

(Old St. Mary's); 12 m (iglesia); 5:30 p. m.

(iglesia); 11 a. m. (Cementerio Calvary, 1255 University Lane); y 7p. m. en español (Old St. Mary's).

Nuestra parroquia será anfitriona de todas las parroquias del decanato: St. Gerard, Aiken; Good Shepherd, McCormick; Sacred Heart, Abbeville; Our Lady of Lourdes, Greenwood; Our Lady of Peace, N. Augusta; Our Lady of the Valley, Gloverville; St. Mary, Edgefield; St. Edward, N. Augusta; y St. Andrew, Barnwell..
Padre Wilson
