Come, Holy Spirit!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In between the time I wrote my last article and this one, it was incredibly difficult to believe that another mass shooting had occurred in our nation. This time, the lives of nineteen children in the fourth grade and two teachers were tragically taken. To reiterate a thought from my homily last Sunday, tragedy like this is not inevitable. We should encourage action to be taken, and it doesn’t need to involve being a republican or a democrat or whatever. It just involves being human. We pray for all those who have the power to do something. May the Holy Spirit guide them quickly.

At the same time, although sin, evil, and hate are a part of our fallen world, our “valley of tears,” it remains that you and I, as disciples of Jesus Christ, have been called and chosen to be His light – “You are the light of the world” (St. Matthew 5:13). For us chosen disciples, Jesus cannot remain a mere “guide” for our life… one voice among many. To be a Christian means to be another Christ. He must become my Lord, my God, my All – our number one priority in all of our choices, relationships, words, and deeds. In a world of increasing indifference, relativism, and darkness, will you stand up and be a bright light shining in the dark places of the world? Live a vibrant Catholic faith! It begins with forming our children in God’s love. To help in this regard, we again have our annual summer Catholic camp with the Totus Tuus missionaries – teams of two young women and two young men. There are crazy skits and messy, fun games. Your children will grow as disciples and as leaders. They'll make new friends and be inspired to live their faith in a deeper way. Don’t forget to sign your children up for this amazing, energetic, and fun week!

Grades 1 – 6:

June 20 – 24, Monday – Friday at 9:00am – 2:30pm

Grades 7 – 12:

June 19 – 23, Sunday – Thursday at 7:00pm– 9:00pm

Erik is from St. Anne’s parish in Rock Hill and is currently in his second year of theological studies at my alma mater, St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, PA. Erik begins his six weeks with us on June 6. Welcome, Erik! Come, Holy Spirit! Come!

Queridos hermanos en Cristo,
Entre el momento en que escribí mi último artículo y este, fue increíblemente difícil creer que otro tiroteo masivo había ocurrido en nuestra nación. Esta vez, las vidas de diecinueve niños de cuarto grado y dos maestras fueron trágicamente arrebatadas. Para reiterar un pensamiento de mi homilía del domingo pasado, una tragedia como esta no es inevitable. Debemos alentar a que se tomen medidas, y no tiene que implicar ser republicano o demócrata o lo que sea. Solo implica ser humano. Oramos por todos aquellos que tienen el poder de hacer algo. Que el Espíritu Santo los guíe rápidamente.

Al mismo tiempo, aunque el pecado, la maldad y el odio son parte de nuestro mundo caído, nuestro “valle de lágrimas”, queda que ustedes y yo, como discípulos de Jesucristo, hemos sido llamados y elegidos para ser Su luz: “Vosotros sois la luz del mundo” (San Mateo 5,13). Para nosotros, discípulos elegidos, Jesús no puede quedarse como un mero “guía” de nuestra vida… una voz entre muchas. Ser cristiano significa ser otro Cristo. Él debe convertirse en mi Señor, mi Dios, mi Todo, nuestra prioridad número uno en todas nuestras elecciones, relaciones, palabras y acciones. En un mundo de creciente indiferencia, relativismo y oscuridad, ¿te levantarás y serás una luz brillante que brille en los lugares oscuros del mundo? ¡Vive una fe católica vibrante!

Comienza con formar a nuestros hijos en el amor de Dios. Para ayudar en este sentido, nuevamente tenemos nuestro campamento católico de verano anual con los misioneros Totus Tuus, cuatro jóvenes, dos mujeresy dos varones. Habrán esquemas locos y juegos desordenados y divertidos. Tus hijos crecerán como discípulos y como líderes. Harán nuevos amigos y se inspirarán para vivir su fe de una manera más profunda. ¡No olvide inscribir a sus hijos en esta semana increíble, enérgica y divertida!
