Life Is Good

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This Saturday, January 22, is a voluntary day of fastng and prayer for Respect for Human Life. Each human being is made in the image and likeness of God, regardless of age or even stage of development. God Himself revealed this by taking on human fesh in the Virgin Mary’s womb, a reality we have just celebrated in the season of Christmas. There never was a tme that His miraculous concepton and gestaton could have been considered “not human enough” or “not human yet.” Saint John the Baptst even leaped at the presence of Jesus, newly conceived, in the womb of his own mother, St. Elizabeth. In the words of Mother Teresa, “Any country that accepts aborton is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is aborton.”

I personally have known many couples unable to have children, who want children and would make fantastc mothers and fathers. Children are wanted – never unwanted. It’s heartbreaking to know there is a home for a litle girl or litle boy if only we can give mothers and fathers considering ending the life of their unborn child a beter choice – Life. We live in a world that tells people, “Death is the answer to your problem.” We know in our gut that can’t be true. Let us learn to help people choose life!

You can also sign up for 9 Days for Life: January 19 – 27. 9 Days for Life is a novena which includes a daily intenton with a short refecton and suggested actons to help build a culture of life. Just visit: respectlife.org/9-days-signup

As tomorrow our naton remembers the legacy of Dr. Martn Luther King, Jr., and his message of non-violence, we remind ourselves of his words: “Along the way of life, someone must have the sense enough and the morality enough to cut of the chain of hate. This can only be done by projectng the ethics of love to the center of our lives.” It is ok for us to acknowledge sins of racism in the past, both personal and natonal. It’s ok for us to admit we stll have room to grow. As disciples, it is you and I who must be the people who courageously step forward to make the ethics of love – Jesus Christ – the center of our lives. Only great good can come from such honesty.

In two weeks, in place of the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time, our parish will observe the annual anniversary of the dedicaton of our parish church. Special music and readings will highlight not merely the date of our building’s consecraton to God, but more importantly our calling as living stones of the temple of God to bring the Good News to Aiken – and beyond.

Yours in Our Lord and Our Lady,

Father Wilson

Padre Wilson
