Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen! Alleluia! We continue the great season of Easter. Forty days of fast has given way to fifty days of feast. This celebration of the Resurrection of Christ will continue through Pentecost on May 23.

I wanted to briefly recap some of the major points of my recent letter regarding some changes to our virus-related protocols. (You can read the full letter on the homepage of our website.) First, please continue to wear your mask/ face covering while inside the body of the church. It should cover both your nose and mouth at the same time.

- Holy water is back! In a report released Feb. 21: The “CDC is not aware of any scientific reports of the virus that causes COVID-19 spreading to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, water playgrounds, or other treated aquatic venues.” Making the Sign of the Cross with holy water at the doors of our churches is a very long tradition, reminding us of our Baptism. A good prayer to say while doing it: “I have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” (Of course, if you are still uncomfortable, recall that it is not strictly necessary to exercise this devotion.)

- The section of pew in front of the altar continues to have ribbons blocking off every other pew; however, the rear and side sections no longer have ribbons. Let each of us take responsibility for maintaining a minimum of three feet between each household unit (current CDC and WHO guidelines for schools).

- Ushers will again take up the collection at the Offertory by using long-handled baskets. The gifts of bread and wine will be brought down at the Offertory procession as they once were.

- Perpetual Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament has been moved back to Ste Claire Chapel. Due to the large numbers of people coming to daily Mass (wonderful!), we will continue to offer daily Masses in the new church. Old St. Mary’s is open for prayer during the day.

We’re blessed that ours is not a typical enclosed space with ceilings forty-six feet high and good ventilation. Still, please do all you can to stay safe and respect your fellow parishioners. At all times, kindness and patience with each other should be our norm.

Finally, as our portion of the bicentennial campaign funds have continued to come in, we have been making progress on all parts of our past, present, and future needs outlined in the campaign. Most recently, we have been working hard to finalize all that is needed to replace the roof on our beloved Old St. Mary’s. If all goes as planned, we should begin in June or July.

Queridos hermanos en Cristo:

¡Cristo ha resucitado! ¡Verdaderamente ha resucitado! ¡Aleluya! Continuamos la gran temporada de Pascua. Cuarenta días de ayuno han dado paso a cincuenta días de fiesta. Esta celebración de la Resurrección de Cristo continuará hasta Pentecostés el 23 de mayo.

Quería resumir brevemente algunos de los puntos principales de mi carta reciente con respecto a algunos cambios en nuestros protocolos relacionados con el virus. (Puede leer la carta completa en nuestro sitio web). Primero, continúe usando su mascarilla mientras esté dentro del cuerpo de la iglesia. Debe cubrir la nariz y la boca al mismo tiempo.

- ¡Ha vuelto el agua bendita! En un informe publicado el 21 de febrero: "La CDC no tiene conocimiento de ningún informe científico sobre el virus que causa la propagación del COVID-19 a las personas a través del agua en piscinas, jacuzzis, parques acuáticos u otros lugares acuáticos tratados". Hacer la Señal de la Cruz con agua bendita en las puertas de nuestras iglesias es una tradición muy antigua, que nos recuerda nuestro Bautismo. Una buena oración para decir mientras lo hace: “Fui lavado en la Sangre del Cordero, en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo. Amén." (Por supuesto, si aún no se siente cómodo haciéndolo, recuerde que no es estrictamente necesario ejercer esta devoción).

- La sección de bancas frente al altar sigue teniendo cintas que bloquean una banca de por medio; sin embargo, las secciones trasera y lateral ya no tienen cintas. Dejemos que cada uno de nosotros asuma la responsabilidad de mantener un mínimo de tres pies entre cada unidad familiar (pautas actuales del CDC y la OMS para las escuelas).

- Los ujieres volverán a recoger la ofrenda en el ofertorio utilizando cestas de asa larga. Las ofrendas de pan y vino se traerán en la procesión del ofertorio como antes.

- La Adoración Perpetua del Santísimo Sacramento se ha trasladado a la Capilla Sta. Clara. Debido a la gran cantidad de personas que vienen a la Misa diaria (¡maravilloso!), continuaremos ofreciendo Misas diarias en la nueva iglesia. Old St. Mary está abierto para la oración durante el día. Tenemos la bendición de que nuestra iglesia, con su techos de cuarenta y seis pies de altura y buena ventilación, no es un espacio cerrado típico. Aún así, haga todo lo posible para mantenerse seguro y respetar a sus compañeros feligreses. En todo momento, la bondad y la paciencia entre nosotros deben ser nuestra norma.

Finalmente, como nuestra parte de los fondos de la campaña del bicentenario ha continuado llegando, hemos progresado en todas las partes de nuestras necesidades pasadas, presentes y futuras descritas en la campaña. Más recientemente, hemos estado trabajando arduamente para finalizar todo lo que se necesita para reemplazar el techo de nuestro querido Old St. Mary. Si todo sale según lo planeado, deberíamos comenzar en junio o julio.
