Grant Them Eternal Rest

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We arrive at Commitment Weekend for our Bicentennial Campaign. For those who did not have an opportunity to pledge and would like to, we will leave just a bit of time after the homily this weekend to fill out a pledge card. Remember that half of every dollar comes back to our parish for some much-needed projects. We have already begun receiving distributions from those who have already donated. With these funds, we have begun the security fence around our school and have begun the initial work on the flat-roof sections of Old Saint Mary’s church. The other half of donations go to support and serve important projects and people in the Diocese. Click the banner on our parish website for more information, where you can also donate. Thank you to all who have given it!

What does heaven look like? “I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and language” (Revelation 7:9). November is National Black Catholic History Month. The presence of our African-American brothers and sisters goes all the way back to the beginnings of our nation, at the time of European colonization. In the midst of trials and tribulations, we cannot imagine, numerous Africans brought to the future United States wholeheartedly embraced the Catholic faith. Many of them are now on the road to sainthood. Find out more about their heroic lives, pray, and reflect through a special online event (Zoom) – Celebrating the Cloud of Witnesses: The Story of Six Saintly Men and Women. There are two more Zoom events left, November 14 and 21. Just go to:

www.eventbrite.com/e/122107178859. When registering for the event, you will be given the chance to donate to the NBCC Daniel Rudd Fund; however, you can also register for a “free seat” without donating to the online event. (The Daniel Rudd Fund helps provide start-up capital to organizations for programs that benefit Black Catholics.) Black Catholics in the United States are small in number and need help to evangelize; however, their faith runs deep. Let us help them as a vital part of our one, wonderful, Catholic family.

Our Artist-in-Residence, violinist Adam DePriest, has put together a chamber music concert to be held outdoors in the front courtyard of St. Mary’s Church, Saturday, November 14 at 7 pm. People are asked to bring a chair to enjoy the short, thirty-minute, socially-distanced performance. Members of Augusta Virtuosi will perform Antonin Dvorak’s ‘American’ String Quartet. The concert is free. Donations are gladly accepted to support future chamber music events.

We continue to pray for our faithfully departed souls throughout November. May Jesus’ one, perfect Sacrifice on the Cross purify their souls from all sin and make them ready for the eternal banquet of heaven. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Yours in Christ,

Father Wilson

Padre Wilson
