Farewell from Father Michel

Near the end of March of this year, Aiken was named by the Southern Living magazine as the best small town in the South. At that time, Mayor Rick Osbon echoed the famous expression by J. David Jameson, the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce President and CEO: “If you're lucky enough to live in Aiken, you're lucky enough.”
My heart is full of gratitude for the many blessings I have received from the Lord throughout my ministry at St. Mary’s, including “being lucky enough to live in Aiken.” As St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus (Lisieux) once said, “Tout est grace” - “All is grace.” I have been inspired and enriched by the faith, hope and love of all of you that I have met, served or shared within ministry. With you, I thank the Lord for all His graces during the one year, one month and 12 days of my assignment at St. Mary’s as your Parochial Vicar.
It is usually believed, “the larger a parish becomes, the greater the need is for small groups where people can know each other on a personal basis, to share their faith and serve their parish community in one or other ministry.” I have experienced this belief in different ways in our community either through the parish groups and organizations or at our school. So many of you serve in the areas of administration, liturgy and worship, maintenance, school of Christian formation, social ministry and youth. Thank you for the generous sharing of your time, talent and treasure that make St. Mary’s a very special, diverse, dynamic and wonderful community to many who live in this best small town in the South.
Heartfelt thanks to Fr. Wilson, our Pastor, for welcoming me at St. Mary’s; for guiding my baby steps in the Charleston Diocese, and walking me through different challenges with good advice and support. Many thanks to our Deacons and the parish and school personnel for their dedication, encouragements and team spirit. I am grateful for our school community (Go Saints Go!!!), parish groups and organizations that are serving so well, for their love and continued support of my ministry.
Many of you invited me over their house or took me out to lunch or dinner when time permitted. “Merci beaucoup!” My apologies and I deeply regret the invitations I had to decline because of previous commitments. I have loved you all and always will. Thank you for the hospitality, friendship, kindness and generosity you have shown me. May God bless you all and your families. Please continue to pray for me and the clergy at St. Mary’s. You remain in my prayers and will miss you.
Finally, “Mi casa es su casa.” Please stop by and visit in Dillon and Marion, SC.

Cerca del final de marzo de este año, Aiken fue nombrado por la revista Southern Living como la mejor pequeña ciudad del Sur. En ese momento, el alcalde Rick Osbon se hizo eco de la famosa expresión de J. David Jameson, presidente y director general de la Cámara de Comercio de Greater Aiken, “Si tienes la suerte de vivir en Aiken, tienes suerte."
Mi corazón está lleno de gratitud por las muchas bendiciones que he recibido del Señor a lo largo de mi ministerio en Santa María, que incluyen “tener la suerte de vivir en Aiken.” Como dijo un vez Santa Teresa del niño Jesús (Lisieux)” Tout est grace” – “Todo es gracia”. He sido inspirado y enriquecido por la fé, la esperanza y el amor de todos ustedes que he conocido, servido o compartido en el ministerio. Contigo, agradezco al Señor por todas sus gracias durante el año, un mes y 12 días de asignación en Santa María como vicario parroquial.
Por lo general, se cree que, “cuanto más grande es una parroquia, mayor es la necesidad de pequeños grupos donde las personas puedan conocerse entre sí en forma personal, compartir su fe y servir a la comunidad parroquial en uno u otro ministerio.” He experimentado esta creencia de diferentes maneras en nuestra comunidad ya sea a través de grupos parroquiales y organizaciones o en nuestra escuela. Muchos de ustedes sirven en las aéreas de administración, liturgia y adoración, mantenimiento, escuela de formación cristiana, ministerio social y juventud. Gracias por compartir generosamente su tiempo, talento y tesoro que hacen a Santa María una comunidad dinámica y maravillosa muy especial, diversa para muchas personas que viven en la mejor pequeña ciudad del Sur.
Sincero agradecimiento al Padre Wilson, nuestro pastor, por darme la bienvenida en Santa María; para guiar mis pasos de bebe en la Diócesis de Charleston, y hacerme pasar por diferentes desafíos con buenos consejos y apoyo. Muchas gracias a nuestros Diáconos y al personal de la parroquia y la escuela secundaria por su dedicación, aliento y espíritu de equipo. Estoy agradecido por nuestra comunidad escolar (Go Saints Go!!!), grupos parroquiales y organizaciones que están sirviendo tan bien, por su amor y apoyo continuo de mi ministerio.
Muchos de ustedes me invitaron a sus casas o me llevaron a almorzar o cenar cuando el tiempo lo permitía. ‘!Muchas Gracias!” Muchas disculpas y lamento profundamente las invitaciones que tuve que rechazar debido a los compromisos anteriores. Los he amado a todos y siempre lo haré. Gracias por la hospitalidad, la amistad, la amabilidad y la generosidad que me han demostrado. Que Dios los bendiga a todos y a sus familias. Por favor, continúen orando por mí y el clero de Santa María. Permanecen en mis oraciones y los extrañare.
